Alves were born Rodrigo Alves on 30 July 1983 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to the parents of a Brazilian mother as well as Alves's British father. Roserval Alves was Roserval's father. He was born in Portugal and came to Brazil in the year 1940. The family was initially involved in farmingbut soon expanded into retailing and shopping centres. Her father bought Barbie dolls for her as an infant. While Alves was assigned male at birth, but from "the the age of 3 to four, five and six" she believed herself to be female, was a doll and interdressed. [6][7] Alves believes that it is not appropriate to identify people as gender-based. Alves was bullied and shy throughout her youth. Alves was bullied in her teenage girl because of hormone dysfunction. A high estrogen level caused breast tissue growth. [9][7] Her family has several supermarkets located in Brazil which has helped make them successful, however, at the time of writing, Alves has not made any money from the supermarkets. [10] Alves made the move to London when she was 18 and studied public relations at the London College of Communication. The money she has comes through an inheritance she received from her maternal grandmother.
